Bicycles on a bicycle rack made of bicycles.

This was another nice example of recycling bicycles. The graffitis on the background add a nice splash of colour.

Sartano City Cruiser January 3, 2010

Sartano City Cruiser missing its seat.

The bike was not locked.

I found this bike in the backyard of the house where I was helping to move my friend. This bike was missing its seat and thus unrideable. It was not locked and covered with snow.

Bike reused as a gate.

This bike has been here for quite a long time. I think it is a cool idea to reuse bikes like this and I suppose that the gate is also quite functional.

  • Preservation status: unrideable
  • Find context: found welded into a gate in Pispalanharju, Tampere
  • Documented on: December 24th 2009

These winter wonders are coming in pairs! This poor fellow was found drowned by the ice masses just 20 meters from the previous one. I suppose the water level is low in the winter time and all kind of garbage comes up. Who knows how long these bikes have been in the river.

  • Preservation status: unknown
  • Find context: found on the riverbank of Aurajoki covered in ice
  • Documented on: December 20th 2009
  • Make and model: Unknown
  • Location

The river Aurajoki seems to be filled with bikes. This one is almost completely covered by the ice.

The same bike from an other angle..

This baby is well on its way to the archaeological context. It is lying on the bank of the Aurajoki river in Turku. Nothing is really missing but it’s not going anywhere since the spokes on the wheels are cut and its pretty badly rusted all over. I would say that this one is the firts truly abandoned bicycle on the blog. It will make its way into the bottom of the river once all that ice is gone.

  • Preservation status: unrideable, rear wheel busted
  • Find context: found on the riverbank of Aurajoki
  • Documented on: December 20th 2009
  • Make and model: Unknown
  • Location

This bike will be at the botton of the river once all the ice is gone

This Helkama was documented near the University of Turku

The first Turku bike! This Helkama Velotar is missing the rear tire. It’s unsure if this bike has been abandoned at all. It may just as well be waiting for repair.

  • Preservation status: unrideable, rear wheel missing a tire
  • Find context: In the backyard of the “YO-talo” in Turku near the university
  • Documented on: December 18th 2009

Snow and -10 C, sun and Tunturi Vip.

These fellows don’t really get a v.i.p. treatment. This has been in the same place for quite a long time, at least 4 weeks. I’m really not sure if the owner really wants it anymore. It is just the front wheel which is bended.

  • Preservation status: unrideable, frontwheel bended
  • Find context: Tapulikaupunki, near the R-Kioski, standing on a bicycle rack
  • Documented on: December 14th 2009
